Wheat production has been shaped largely by weather-related yield disruptions, as seen in Figure 3. Excessive rainfall and late frost affected yields in 2024, while the 2023 season experienced widespread flooding. This highlights the sensitivity of winter grain production to rainfall timing and temperature stress, particularly in the Western Cape, where most of the country’s dryland wheat is produced.
